For the 25th PEPMIX, we present to you a live recording of Robbie McDonald, AKA Open Ears. This has been taken from our recent 'Empty Spaces' event with Inter:Mission, at the marvellous Bakery 123Space on Stokes Croft, Bristol.

A self-taught, neo-classical pianist, Robbie brought an entrancing atmosphere to the Cafe area; bringing people to a meditative state, as they sat cross-legged to enjoy his spell-bounding performance. We have been speaking with Robbie about his music for what seems like forever, so to be able to invite him down and listen to him play was an enormous pleasure.

Introducing a delicate relationship with his keys to his forever yearning voice, Open Ears has created a beautiful rendition of his own emotions. He holds an incredibly deep connection with the pieces he delivers, and that was felt throughout the bakery in a soothing, yet emphatic fashion.

The reverberated sounds of the cafe play out throughout this recording, adding a nostalgic tinge to the performance and evoking Robbie's connection to his music, and to Empty Spaces.
